About KAAPS

The Korean Association for Anesthesia Patient Safety (KAAPS) is dedicated to enhancing Anesthesia Patient Safety, particularly in small to mid-sized surgical facilities and clinics across South Korea and East Asia.

Our mission is to enhance Anesthesia Patient Safety, thereby improving safe surgical and anesthesia care.

Our goals include establishing and implementing globally recognized protocols and standards for Anesthesia Patient Safety, thereby improving perioperative care.

KAAPS collaborates closely with the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) to promote international best practices and advance patient safety through shared expertise and global partnerships.

Goals
We aim to protect surgical patients by:
  • Promoting the employment of certified anesthesiologists
  • Encouraging the use of WHO-recommended anesthesia equipment
  • Ensuring proper infection control through single-use supplies
  • Developing national safety indicators and evaluation systems
Green Shield Certification

“Green Shield indicates the Champion of Anesthesia Patient Safety”

Application to become a member of Green Shield.

Clinics that meet the full criteria for essential equipment, facilities, and personnel for safe anesthesia, as recommended by the WHO and WFSA, are eligible to apply for evaluation by submitting the Application Form for joining the Green Shield Members to KAAPS.

Certification Process

Application

Review of the Application Form by the internal or external invited Experts of KAAPS. Checking equipment, facilities, space, and personnel for safe anesthesia and infection control.

Review of Application Forms

Review of the Application Form by the internal or external invited Experts of KAAPS. Checking equipment, facilities, space, and personnel for safe anesthesia and infection control.

On-site Review (Phase 1 Qualification Review)

On-site review for qualifying whole conditions described in the Application Forms.

On-site Review (Phase 2 Qualification Review)

On-site review of real performance for patient care.

Final Judge & Certification

Final decision to qualify the clinic, issue the Certification as the Member Clinic of Green Shield, and register and advertise the clinic in the list of Green Shield.

Education & Public Awareness

KAAPS offers educational programs, including online seminars, classes, and workshops, to healthcare professionals, as well as training courses for implementing institutional facilities and spaces that are essential to securing and promoting Anesthesia Patient Safety. KAAPS also conducts public campaigns to enhance public awareness and standards regarding Anesthesia Patient Safety.

International Collaboration

In collaboration with global experts and leading organizations, including the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF), KAAPS contributes to research, public campaigns, healthcare policy development, and international academic exchange.
